As Keith and Laura delve into the questions Jesus asks in scripture, your Stewardship and Giving team want to answer your questions about stewardship. Each week during our fall stewardship campaign, we have included questions and answers relating to stewardship in a bulletin insert. As we know not everyone was in church, we wanted to share them further and wider so if you missed it, you can also have your questions answered!
Understanding stewardship within the context of the Christian life begins with recognizing that God is the owner of all things. Anything and everything we have are resources God has given us, including the gospel message, our churches, our education, our time, our energy, our thought life, the words we speak, the house in which we live, the cars we drive, our children, our spouse, our finances, our job.
It all belongs to God, and God has entrusted it to us for a specific purpose.
What is that purpose? In Matthew 6:33, after telling us to avoid letting scarcity run our lives, Jesus tells us to seek first God’s kingdom and righteousness and all these things will be added unto us. In other words, we are provided for as we pursue the purpose God has entrusted to us, so that we can partner with God to advance God’s kingdom.
Financial stewardship is an important component of a balanced spiritual life. Responding to God’s gracious provision by returning a measure of what God has given is a tangible and meaningful way to express our faith and participate in God’s purpose.
Blessings,
Your Stewardship and Giving Committee
